Col. Bertoni gave the 2006 Memorial Day Keynote Address
at both the Mt. Pulaski and Steenbergen Cemeteries.
Col. Bertoni and his wife, Rosalie, returned to Mt.
Pulaski after an absence of almost 63 years. He
served in the Air Force for almost 30 years. His
career in research and development, military
intelligence, and satellite communications resulted in
assignments at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio; AF
Headquarters at the Pentagon, and the Defense
Communications Agence (DCA) in Arlington, Va.; the
National Security Agency (NSA), the USAF Security
Service in Germany, and the Electronic Systems Division
(ESD) at Hanscom AFB, Ma.
Col. Bertoni's awards include the Defense
Superior Service Medal for his DCA service in satellite
communications, the Legion of Merit for his Pentagon
Service in scientific intelligence, and the Legion of
Merit with oak leaf cluster for his service as Vice
Commander at ESD.
Col. Bertoni is the son of Rinaldo and
Pauline Bertoni. He is married to the former
Rosalie Smith, daughter of Wilbur and Hazel Smith of
Chestnut, IL. They now reside in Mt. Pulaski, IL. |
